Veteran-led Volunteers Support Wildfire Mitigation Efforts In Santa Fe County

Team Rubicon News:

GLORIETA – Volunteers from Team Rubicon, a veteran-led nonprofit humanitarian organization, are in Glorieta to help protect a vital part of the community from the increasing dangers of wildland fire.

The Glorieta Adventure Camp is a critical resource for the children and families of the community. This operation is to help protect the camp, the youth who depend on it, and the Glorieta community at large.

Team Rubicon volunteers, known as Greyshirts, perform disaster mitigation operations year-round to ease the risks of wildfires and floods to vulnerable communities nationwide, including several recent Western operations in New Mexico, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, and California.

Team Rubicon is a national and local organization, with the ability to serve communities across the nation because its Greyshirt volunteers live in every state, Puerto Rico, Guam, and Canada—including over 1,300 in New Mexico. This operation is possible because of local Greyshirt volunteer leaders and the critical support from the Glorieta community and the Glorieta Adventure Camp.

About two dozen volunteer Greyshirts have traveled from all around the Southwest to help the Glorieta Adventure Camp and the community of Glorieta be more resilient against future fires by removing hazards and thinning existing woodlands to slow the advancement of wildfire.

To date in 2025, Team Rubicon has completed 66 operations nationally, recently deployed to:

  • Burnet County, Texas (Flood Recovery);
  • Dona Ana County, New Mexico (Flood Response);
  • Milwaukee County, Wisconsin (Severe Storm Response); and
  • Los Angeles County, California (Wildfire Recovery).

From fire mitigation to natural disasters and crisis response, Team Rubicon responded to 98 disasters across North America last year.  As we enter hurricane and tornado season, Team Rubicon is ever reliant on our 200,000 volunteers to respond to where they are most desperately needed. About Team Rubicon

Team Rubicon is a veteran-led humanitarian organization that serves global communities before, during, and after disasters and crises. Founded following the Haiti earthquake in 2010, the organization has grown to more than 200,000 volunteers across the United States and has launched over 1,200 operations domestically and internationally. To drive equity across disaster and humanitarian services, Team Rubicon focuses on three areas of impact: disaster response—from mitigation to immediate response to recovery; long term recovery & workforce development—maintaining the fabric of communities through resilient building methods; and medical services—including providing emergent and surge health care, WASH, and disaster risk reduction.
