The Family YMCA of Los Alamos is proud to host its second annual Día de los Muertos 5K beginning at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 1, 2025, at the Los Alamos Cooperative Market/Canyon Rim Trail. In honor of this meaningful holiday, the event offers community members a special opportunity to celebrate, remember, and connect through movement, remembrance, and festivity.
Run, Walk, or Jog—All Are Welcome
Whether you prefer to run, walk, or jog this 5K offers a way to remember loved ones who have passed, while supporting the YMCA’s vital youth programming:
- Pre-registration runs from Aug. 18 to Oct. 31 at 7 p.m.
- Adults (14+): $37 ($27 for Y members)
- Children 13 & under: $17
- Day-of registration is available (Oct. 31, 7:01–9 p.m. at the YMCA and online; and Nov. 1, 8:30–9:30 a.m. at the Co-op before the race starts)
- Adults (14+): $42 ($32 for Y members)
- Children 13 & under: $22
Participants may pick up their race packets from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 30, at the YMCA (1450 Iris Street).
A Celebration of Memory & Culture
Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a time-honored tradition in which people honor and connect with loved ones who’ve passed. The YMCA’s 5K will include:
- An ofrenda (altar) with candles for runners to light in remembrance
- A memory board for placing photos of loved ones
- Prizes for top finishers and best costume, encouraging celebration, creativity, and community spirit
- Post-race kids’ activities, crafts, face painting, smash burger by Los Alamos Co-op and local vendors and artisans.
Schedule of Events — Nov. 1, 2025
- 8:30 – 9:30 a.m.: Day-of registration
- 9 a.m.: Vendors & face painting open
- 10 a.m.: Race begins
- 10:30 a.m.: Crafts & Smash Burgers by Los Alamos Co-op
- 11 a.m.: Winners announced
- Event concludes at 2 p.m.
Even if you’re not racing, you’re invited to join the celebration, honor loved ones, and enjoy food, culture, and community.

Proceeds from the event support the YMCA’s after-school programs, summer camps, sports initiatives, and youth services. Your participation helps make possible the programs that build strong families and healthy living across our community.
