PEEC News:

The Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) invites the community to step into the darkness and explore nature in a new way during its Night Hike – 5 Senses from 6–7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 7, 2025.

This guided hike through Acid Canyon will encourage participants to discover how their senses adjust to the night. A PEEC educator will lead hands-on activities along the trail, offering a fun, family-friendly way to experience the sights, sounds, smells, and textures of the canyon after dark.

Participants should meet outside the Los Alamos Nature Center (2600 Canyon Rd) by 6 p.m. The group will venture onto uneven terrain, so sturdy footwear is recommended. The hike is free, but advance registration is required as space is limited. Red flashlights will be provided, or hikers are welcome to bring their own, red-colored lights to preserve night vision.

For more information, visit PEEC’s website at peecnature.org/events. Stay connected on social media for updates on each week’s activities.

PEEC was founded in 2000 to serve the community of Los Alamos. It offers people of all ages a way to enrich their lives by strengthening their connections to our canyons, mesas, mountains, and skies. PEEC operates the Los Alamos Nature Center at 2600 Canyon Road, holds regular programs and events, and hosts several interest groups, from birding to hiking to butterfly watching. PEEC activities are open to everyone; however, members receive exclusive benefits such as discounts on programs and gift shop merchandise. Annual memberships start at $35.
