Celebrate The Best In Preservation During 54th Annual Heritage Preservation Awards May 29

The New Mexico Historic Preservation Division is thrilled to announce the 54th annual Heritage Preservation Awards, which will be held in Albuquerque on May 29.

“As we celebrate Historic Preservation Month in May, our team has worked to identify projects, organizations, and leaders who best exemplify what preservation can look like,” said State Historic Preservation Officer Michelle Ensey. “We’re excited to honor these individuals and projects during our next awards ceremony on May 29th.”

The 54th annual Heritage Preservation Awards will be held at the National Hispanic Cultural Center (1701 4th Street SW, Albuquerque) at 1 p.m., Friday, May 29.

Awardees include:  

  • Architectural Heritage Preservation Award: Fort Stanton Historic Site, for the major rehabilitation work that was completed on four historic buildings, the visitor center, the laundress quarters, the hospital, and the nurses’ quarters.  
  • Heritage Preservation Award for Organizations: Kit Carson House, Inc., the Board of Directors, and staff, in recognition of their collective work as an educational institution and efforts in completing significant preservation projects at the Kit Carson House and Museum.  
  • Architectural Heritage Preservation Award: Albuquerque Railyards, presented to the City of Albuquerque, the New Mexico Media Academy and CNM Film Production Center in recognition for the outstanding creative design and historic rehabilitation for a contemporary, adaptive reuse of the historic boiler shop, AT&SF Railway Locomotive Shops Historic District.  
  • Heritage Preservation Individual Achievement Award: Dr. Jerry Wallace, in recognition for his work as a public historian at the New Mexico State University and his community-driven preservation efforts.  
  • Heritage Preservation Lifetime Achievement Award: Dr. Rick Hendricks, in recognition for his extensive contribution to New Mexico scholarship and history as well as his tenure on the Cultural Properties Review Committee as the state historian.
