AAUW News:

The Los Alamos Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) has announced that in June, it surpassed its $20,000 goal for the Jean Nereson Book Memorial Fund.

This fund was established in memory of long-time branch member Jean Nereson, who died two years ago. The fund is administered by the Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation and will provide $1,000 each year for four years to each elementary school library in the district for new printed resources. 

Nereson is fondly remembered for teaching 52 years in the Los Alamos elementary schools and her enthusiastic leadership and support for all AAUW Los Alamos Branch activities. 

The total money raised in Jeanie’s honor was $20,496.50 as of Aug. 15, LAPS Foundation Executive Director Joanna Gillespie said. 

Donations continue to be accepted and, as directed, all funds will be for books for enriching the five Los Alamos elementary school libraries. Checks may be written to LAPS Foundation with Jean Nereson’s name in the memo line and mailed to LAPS Foundation, 1900 Diamond Dr. Suite 1, Los Alamos, NM 87544. All donations are tax deductible.
