Joan Rivers

Comedian Joan Rivers has died at the age of 81. 

Rivers was undergoing surgery on her vocal cords Aug. 28 at a clinic in New York City when she stopped breathing and had to be transported to Mount Sinai Hospital.

Her daughter Melissa announced that her mother passed away peacefully at 1:17 p.m., today surrounded by family and close friends.
