In recent years, libraries have changed into dynamic centers for engagement to accommodate the growing needs of the local community. Today’s libraries are more relevant than ever. Libraries inspire creativity and customer curiosity, and help build community and a vibrant culture.
Outside the Lines ran through last week and is designed to reconnect the community with this creativity, technology and discovery, and to demonstrate all the fun and unexpected experiences happening in your library today. This national campaign aims to publicize – and get people talking about – libraries, by showcasing their relevancy and the many new ways people can engage in their communities through library services today.
The Los Alamos County Library System participated in Outside the Lines in a variety of ways. During ScienceFest, library staff interacted with more than 200 children, teens and parents at its booth at ExpoDay where they explored the basics of magnetism with a simple science experiment.
Over the weekend, library staff was at Pajarito Mountain Ski Area’s ULLR Fest, mingling with the crowd and demonstrating the way patrons can still access the library’s resources – like ebooks and digital magazines – outside the lines (and the outside library’s doors).
The Library hosts a number of events, meetings, classes and programs, including a monthly Authors Speak series presenting New Mexico authors in a wide variety of genres, free film series; an art gallery featuring artists of northern New Mexico, a weekly board game night, traveling museum exhibits, and regional cultural exhibits, and great programs for children and teenagers.
These activities are meant to give the community a new chance to say hello to the Los Alamos County Library System and all the great services available.
