SFI News:
Rustom Antia of Emory University will present a colloquium, “A Population Biological View of Immunological Memory and Vaccination,” at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30 in the Noyce Conference Room at the Santa Fe Institute (1399 Hyde Park Road, Santa Fe).
The event is free and open to the public. The SFI host is Ben Althouse.
Abstract: The ability to remember previous encounters with pathogens and mount a more rapid response on subsequent exposure to the same or a related pathogen is a central features of the adaptive immune system of vertebrate hosts. I will give an overview of our current understanding of immunological memory and its application to vaccines. I will focus on key puzzles that remain, and describe how a better understanding of immunological memory could help improve existing strategies as well as and develop new strategies for vaccination.
