Gordon/ladailypost.comAt Thursday’s School Board Work Session at Pinon Elementary School, Aspen Principal Kathryn Vandenkieboom and LAPS Chief Operations Officer Joan Ahlers outlined plans for moving students into the newly renovated Aspen Elementary School.
Students will see their new classrooms Wednesday, Nov. 5 and the planned move will begin that afternoon.
“The goal is to have everything moved by Saturday, Nov. 8,” Ahlers said.
Students will return to Aspen Nov. 12 to their new classrooms. Vandenkieboom said she is working with the Family YMCA to provide activities for Aspen students while they are out of school between Nov. 6-11.
According to Ahlers, the District plans to move one portable classroom from the Aspen campus each day. Twelve of the portables belong to the State of New Mexico and will be stored at Los Alamos Middle School until they are needed elsewhere in New Mexico. The four portables that belong to the District will be stored at Chamisa Elementary in a fenced area.
Ahlers also reported about the ongoing inventory of District physical assets. Around 5,000 items have been moved out of the fixed assets module, either because they have fully depreciated or are no longer owned by the District, she said.
School Board members present at Thursday’s meeting were President Judy Bjarke-McKenzie, Secretary Matt Williams and Board Member NancyAnn Holmes.
