By ROBIN STOTHARDWhen my grandparents arrived sometime after the folks here at Los Alamos ended the Second World War, I’m sure the last thing on their minds was to live their lives by mathematical terms. They came here to carry on the mission to keep the United States of America safe from those wanting to take our freedoms away. I am proud of that.
As a third generation Los Alamos native, I have seen many changes to my hometown through the years. Some good, some bad and some that are downright mystifying.
I stayed here because Los Alamos was a great place to play, raise a family and work … at the place where my grandparents carried on a mission. I am proud of that. I suspect that they are rolling over in their graves out at Guaje Pines by the mere mention of living exponentially … or perhaps they are laughing, I don’t know.
What I do know however, is that you cannot change or erase the history of what happened in the early morning hours of Aug. 6, 1945, because of the work that was done in this tiny little town in Northern New Mexico.
So, brand and re-brand as you will but, to me it will always be the Atomic City.
