There have been a flurry of letters in the Los Alamos Daily Post throughout the year, which would suggest the only thing exponential about Los Alamos is the desire to NOT live exponentially.
You would think the Council would have got the message yet they persist — exponentially relative to the degree of resistance.
Thing is, we have a slogan which can be used to good advantage when marketing Los Alamos — only it hasn’t been. “Los Alamos, where discoveries are made” has real untapped potential. Of and by itself it suggests the “Science City” approach that seems to be still near and dear to the hearts of some. But what if………………….
We would like to have a broader retail base here so, “Discover your business opportunities in Los Alamos where discoveries are made.” Or……………
Los Alamos may be a community of scientists but we have a fairly strong artistic streak as well so, “Discover your hidden talents in Los Alamos where discoveries are made”. Or……………
In many cities its hard to really see the stars what with the ground light clutter and the lower elevations. One of things that my wife was stunned by in her first visit here was the clarity of the night sky and the majestic sweep of stars she had never seen. So, “Discover the stars in Los Alamos where discoveries are made”.
The marketing trick here is to use the slogan to describe the product to which the slogan applies. Which, far as I know, hasn’t been done.
We don’t need a new slogan. We need better use of the slogan we have.
