The Santa Fe Insitute is hosting a poetry reading by poet Tom Crawford at 12:15 p.m., Monday in its Collins Conference Room at 1399 Hyde Park Road in Santa Fe.

Tom Crawford is a teacher and poet whose work explores the natural world and our complex connection to it. Born in Michigan and educated in California, he’s lived much of his life in the Northwest. Years of teaching in China and South Korea have infused his work with a quality of Eastern sensibility. His poems are both contemplative and activist. They’re not just about beauty but how to save it. Caging the Robin, his latest book came out in December 2014.

Recent presentations: Yosemite National Park and the Mono Lake Bird Chautauqua in Lee vining California. In September of this years he was guest speaker at Auburn University in Alabama for the installation: The Art of Vanishing in celebration of Audubon’s life and work. He’s the author of seven books of poetry. Lauds won the Oregon Book Award. The Temple On Monday was winner of the ForeWord Book of the Year Award. The Names of Birds, his last collection, “Star-Reviewed in BookList has become a favorite among bird watchers in America.

He’s the recipient of the Pushcart Prize, and two National Endowments for the Arts Fellowship.
