FBCLA News:

This past Saturday the youth group at First Baptist Church of Los Alamos hosted a free “Parents Night Out.”

Los Alamos High School Freshman, Hannah Clegg, who organized the event stated, “This kind of night allows students to serve the community as well as giving parents some rest. I found joy in seeing the kids have fun and also seeing the parents have fun. You can tell they really appreciated it and a great deal of them needed it.”

Parents were greeted with gourmet appetizers as they dropped of the kiddos before heading out on the town for their date night. When they came back to pick up their kids they each received a bag of chocolates from The Rose Chocolatier, and the kids each received a toy as party favors.

Mike Brake, the youth pastor at FBCLA said, “I’m proud of our teens for recognizing that parenting is hard work and coming up with a free and practical way to help serve parents in our community and make them feel special. The fact that many of the couples went out to eat in town to support local businesses was an added bonus as well.”

One couple who participated in the evening stated, “We really appreciated the ‘night out’ and our kids had a great time. We definitely felt served and taken care of! Great job helping out parents in the community – finding care for 4 kiddos is definitely challenging!”

Another said, “The Parent’s Night Out was awesome. It was so wonderful to drop off our kids and have a great time. What an awesome service for you all to do!! Thanks a million.”

Many of the kids were quoted as saying they had such a fun time and asking their parents if they could do it again tomorrow!

“Our goal was to make the parents feel special for the evening, and to help the kids have so much fun that they would feel like they got ‘the deal’ for the evening,” Brake said. “We felt like we accomplished that.”
