NMHM News:

SANTA FE — Don’t beware the Ides of March. Instead, keep coming to see The Book’s the Thing: “Shakespeare from Stage to Page” tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow, or at least through Saturday, March 26.

Originally scheduled to be up through February, the exhibit by Thomas Leech of the Palace Press has proved its popularity and earned an encore.

The Book’s the Thing was developed in collaboration with the New Mexico Museum of Art’s exclusive-to-the-state display of a First Folio from the Folger Library during the month of February.

Although the First Folio is moving on after Feb. 28, the History Museum exhibit will continue to explore the state of the printing craft in 1623, when the First Folio was printed, and how printers and artists have interpreted the bard in the centuries since. From fine-art editions of Shakespeare to a Klingon-language version “in the original Klingon,” there’s a style of Shakespeare for every taste.

The exhibit includes newly created samples from New Mexico:
  • A collaboration between Leech and artist Patricia Musick featuring calligraphed quotes from Hamlet on handmade and marbled papers.
  • A collection of creations by members of the Santa Fe Book Arts Group inspired by Shakespeare’s legacy.
In short:

The Book’s the Thing: Shakespeare from Stage to Page is on exhibit Tuesday through Sunday through Saturday, March 26. See demonstrations of Shakespeare-style printing on a replica Gutenberg-era press 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays. Sundays are free to New Mexico residents and children are free daily.
