Luján Receives First Annual SER Advocacy Award

WASHINGTON, D.C. ― U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico’s Third District was recognized recently by SER-Progress for Jobs, Inc. for his support of efforts to prepare New Mexicans with the skills and training they need to compete in the 21st century. 
 
SER, an acronym for “Service, Employment, and Redevelopment,” is a national network of community-based organizations with a focus on education, training, employment, business and economic opportunity. It is the largest Latino Employment and Training direct-services provider in the nation, serving more than 1 million individuals each year in over 200 locations, including New Mexico.

Ignacio Salazar, president and CEO of SER-Jobs for Progress National, presented Rep. Luján with the award. In attendance was Alex A. Martinez, Executive Director of SER-Jobs for Progress in Santa Fe.

“Through education and job training, SER-Jobs for Progress is giving hard-working people the tools to meet their potential, create new opportunities for themselves, and reach for their dreams,” Luján said. “It is an honor to support the work of those who are doing so much for the people of our communities, and I will continue to be a strong advocate for the critical programs that help New Mexicans get ahead and stay ahead.”

“It is only fitting that the 1st Annual SER Advocacy Awards has selected Congressman Ben Ray Lujan of New Mexico, for this prestigious recognition,” said Alex A. Martinez of SER-Jobs for Progress in Santa Fe. “The Congressman is the next generation of great leaders, truly focused on the needs of the disadvantaged, the less educated and the marginalized people of this country-the same people that his famous father championed in New Mexico. Congressman Lujan and his father epitomize the mission and great work of SER.”
