Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities Manager Tim Glasco
LWVLA News:
The League Of Women Voters of Los Alamos will feature Los Alamos County Utilities Department Manager Tim Glasco for this month’s Lunch with a Leader. The luncheon is 11:45 a.m., March 15 at Mesa Public Library.
A licensed Professional Engineer and certified as a Level IV Wastewater and Water Systems Operator, Glasco has more than 30 years of experience in municipal and public works engineering and management. In 2014, the Los Alamos County Council approved the appointment of Glasco to lead the County-owned utilities department following selection by the Board of Public Utilities.
He oversees all operations of the department, including electric production and distribution; water production and distribution; natural gas distribution and the collection and treatment of wastewater. Prior to being tapped utilities manager, Glasco was hired at the department as the deputy utilities manager for Gas, Water and Sewer back in 1995.
At the March 15 luncheon, Glasco will discuss the status of setting up the energy future for Los Alamos County. He will cover the existing Energy Coordination Agreement with the DOE, then move on to the status of the DPU’s involvement with the San Juan Generating Station and the Laramie River station. The County has an interest in both of those coal-fired generating stations, but are looking to exit them in the next 10 years or so. He will also discuss the County’s involvement in the proposed Small Modular Reactor project, as a carbon-free base load resource to possibly replace its coal generation assets. Finally, if there is still time, he said he would like to discuss the County’s involvement with solar and wind generation.
Glasco holds Bachelor’s Degrees in Microbiology and Civil Engineering as well as a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering (Sanitary Engineering). Glasco his wife Charla moved to Los Alamos in 1990 and raised their four daughters in the Los Alamos community.
