At the Los Alamos Historical Society 2015 Fall Gala, Dist. 43 Rep. Stephanie Garcia Richard won an auction item for a Golden Sledgehammer opportunity to participate in the Historical Museum renovation.
Last Friday morning, Garcia Richard donned a hard hat and picked up the sledgehammer at the Historical Museum to help the renovation along.
The renovation includes upgrading the Los Alamos Ranch School Guest Cottage that currently houses the Historical Museum, improving electrical systems, plumbing, heating, cooling and creating more accessible entryways and pathways throughout the building.
Museum Director Judith Stauber said, “the renovation offers a unique opportunity for the Los Alamos Historical Society and Museum to redesign the exhibits in the Guest Cottage and expand the museum campus.”
This exhibit design project will update the guest cottage, create innovative outdoor experiences, and introduce new Cold War exhibits in the Hans Bethe House.
During the renovation, the Los Alamos Historical Society and Museum is located in the community building on 20th Street.
