Lensic’s Robert Martin Resigns

LENSIC News:

SANTA FE The Board of Directors of the Lensic Performing Arts Center has announced that Executive/Artistic Director Robert Martin has resigned and plans to depart at or before the end of March to pursue other interests and opportunities. The Lensic Board of Directors will immediately begin a nationwide search for a permanent successor to Martin.

Martin’s passion for the arts and community has permeated his tenure at The Lensic and has been a driving force in the revitalization of this community treasure. Martin has directed artistic programming and operations at The Lensic since 2001, when the historic theater reopened as nonprofit performing arts center. He led The Lensic through its crucial first years of programming and helped build it into a thriving venue that today offers more than 200 events annually.

Martin helped establish The Lensics standards of artistic excellence, developed a range of education and community outreach programs, and created an original performance series that emphasizes innovation, quality, and cultural diversity.

“Bob opened the doors of The Lensic to the entire community on day one, sending the message, ‘We are here for everyone,’” said Lensic Chairman and Founding Director Nancy Zeckendorf. “He continued to invite local community groups to use the theater for what they could afford, at the same time helping them present their programs in a professional manner. We have all enjoyed the imaginative programming Bob has brought to The Lensic. He has made many friends here, and we will miss him. We wish him the very best.
