PEEC News:
To celebrate National Wildflower Week, Los Alamos residents Terry Foxx and Katy Korkos are leading a quilting workshop at the Los Alamos Nature Center, where they will show how to use fabric to depict the beauty of wildflowers.
This two-session workshop is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 7 and 6:30-8 p.m. Monday, May 16. Advance registration is requested. At the first session, May 7, participants will discuss the basics of understanding and observing nature as well as elements of fabric as a foundation for making a wildflower portrait. The second session will be a show-and-tell discussion on how to finish the fabric wildflower portraits.
Foxx, an ecologist, loves to quilt and has had extensive experience with local plants and animals; Korkos, a master quilter, brings extensive experience in quilting and a love of nature including birds to this two-session class. Katy has been featured in Quilting Arts Magazine and has displayed her quilts in the Fuller Lodge Art Center and other locations. Foxx has illustrated and written books on plants and recently published Volume 1 of the Plants of the Jemez Mountains, Trees, Shrubs, Vines, Ferns and Horsetails.
This two-part class is $40. Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) members can participate in the workshop for a discounted rate of $32. Advance registration is required.
