Dance Arts Los Alamos (DALA) is now in its 24th year of bringing professional dance training and high quality performances to the community.
This weekend, two distinct performances will highlight the accomplishments of dancers ages three through adult as well as the talent and diversity of the DALA faculty. All performances will take place at the Duane Smith Auditorium Friday and Saturday May 20 and 21.
Intermediate and advanced ballet students will present a one act version of the classic story ballet Cinderella at 7 p.m., May 20 and 21. Choreographed by DALA Artistic Director Jonathan Guise, this ballet is sure to captivate the audience with its humor and fine choreography.
Camille Rousculp will dance the featured role of Cinderella, while the stepsisters Edwina and Clementine will be portrayed by Annie Smith and Corinne D’Andrea. Kaelan Prime will dance the role of the Summer Fairy. Also featured will be Patrick MacDonald as Hortensia, the step mother, and Ethan Rushton as Prince Charming.
The mixed repertory portion of the evening performances will feature works by DALA faculty members Tina Anderson, Yesca Sullivan, Rhiana Guise, Patrick MacDonald and Jonathan Guise. A broad range of styles will showcase the versatility of the dancers as they perform jazz, tap, hip hop, modern dance and musical theater. Graduating seniors Corinne D’Andrea, Kaelan Prime, Camille Rousculp and Annie Smith will each perform a solo as a farewell to their DALA family.
DALA’s youngest dancers will have their own opportunity to shine at 2 p.m., May 21. A matinee will feature the young dancers portraying a rainbow of jewels. Featuring choreography by Tina Anderson, Camille Rousculp, Yesca Sullivan, Jonathan Guise and Valerie Fassbender, this afternoon performance includes Creative Movement, Pre and Beginning Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop and Jazz Funk.
