Central Avenue Phase 2 Improvements Project

On Monday, Century Club Construction will begin mobilizing equipment for the Central Avenue Phase 2 Improvements Project. Road work will begin on Wednesday with the closure of the south side of the Central/15th Street Intersection. Detours will be in place for through traffic on 15th Street at the intersection.  Eastbound and westbound two-way traffic on Central will be maintained. Access to area businesses will also be maintained.

To expedite project completion, night work will be conducted, requiring a full closure of Central Avenue from 15th Street to Knecht Street between 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Message boards are in place providing information on work activities. Motorists and pedestrians are asked to follow detours and use caution within the work zone.
The project includes road, street scape and utility improvements on Central Avenue from 15th Street to 9th Street.

Knecht Street Improvements Project

Concrete work continues on Knecht Street. The contractor will be paving on Tuesday, July 19. Motorists are asked to follow the detour in place and use caution.

Construction continues on 38th Street, 39th Street, and Ridgeway Drive. Contractor continues with utility and roadway work. Residences should follow traffic detour onto Orange Street.

Other Non-County Possible Traffic Delays:

LAPS Portables on North Mesa

Los Alamos Public Schools’ contractor will be moving multiple portable buildings out of Los Alamos on the following dates: July 19, 21, 24, 26 and 28; August 1 and 3. The route is from Los Alamos Middle School to Hawk Drive to San Ildefonso Rd to Diamond Drive to East Jemez Rd (Truck Route). Transport should occur after commuter hours at the end of each day (approximately 6 to 8 p.m.) to avoid traffic congestion, but motorists are asked to be alert and aware of the oversized, slow-moving vehicles when driving in these areas, especially Diamond Drive.

Longview Drive – New Waterline Installation

The contractor is finishing the installation of a new waterline on Longview Drive, between Village Place and the east side of Rover Blvd in White Rock to improve fire suppression. Later in the week, crews will be in the road at Longview and Linda (Sherwood Village Apartments) to tie in the new waterline. Water will be temporarily shut off to customers in the area while work is completed. Door hangers will be distributed to neighbors who will be affected by the water shut off 24 hours in advance. A flagging operation will maintain two-way traffic.
