I am writing this letter in support of the Los Alamos Public Schools Bond, for which you should have received a ballot in the mail.
I support this bond for many reasons and would like to share with you a few of them.
In the mid 70’s and early 80’s both of my parents graduated from Los Alamos High School. My mom was a field hockey player, and my dad was a baseball and basketball player. In the 90’s, both my brother and I entered LAHS and graduated in 2000 and 2001. My father eventually joined the Los Alamos Public Schools as an employee in the grounds and maintenance division and my mother continues to work for Los Alamos Public Schools, first at Aspen, then LAHS, and currently at Mountain Elementary.
In 2000, I watched both my stepdaughters, and my baby brother and baby sister, walk across the stage in Griffith Gym and in 2028, my daughter Olivia will take the same walk. And last, but certainly not least, my grandmother, Patricia Graves taught in this school district for over 50 years. The strange part of all of this is, up until now, all of these things happened in old buildings. It wasn’t until the recent remodel of LAHS, LAMS and Aspen Elementary (go Tigers) that students have had the opportunity to walk the halls of a new school.
I support this bond in hopes that the infrastructure of the school buildings can last throughout many, many more generations of success in our community.
The new high school, middle school and Aspen Elementary are prepared to stand that test of time. Let’s give the others the same chance. Let’s assure that the buildings in which we house our top-notch schools look the part and build better schools for brighter futures!
