Poetry Reading Saturday Features Native Poets

This Saturday’s poetry reading, 1 p.m. in the White Rock Branch Library, features poets from the Creative Writing programs at the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) in Santa Fe.

Poets Vivian Carroll (Cherokee), Chee Brossy (Dine), Victoria Gonzalez, ValirieSerawop (Ute), and Douglas SuanoBootes (Saponi)will read from their work. They are all students of James Thomas Stevens at IAIA, where both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Creative Writing are offered.

This is the second poetry reading in honor of National Poetry Month and National Library Week, April 9 through 15. The first featured Los Alamos native Allison Cobb. The third poetry reading for the month will be on April 29, also in the White Rock Branch Library. It will feature Los Alamos high school poets, who are working with instructor Michelle Holland to polish their poems and presentation skills for the reading.

All library programs are free of charge.
