NM Symphonic Chorus Presents The Creation

NMSC News:

ALBUQUERQUE  The sixth season of the New Mexico Symphonic Chorus comes to a sensational close with Haydn’s The Creation at 3 p.m., Sunday, May 7, at the First United Methodist Church in Albuquerque.

Roger Melone will conduct, and the New Mexico Philharmonic will join the Chorus in performing this magnificent oratorio, thought by many to be Haydn’s greatest masterpiece.

The Chorus will perform the English translation by Robert Shaw and Alice Parker. Featured soloists will be soprano Hannah Stephens, tenor Gabriel Liboiron-Cohen and
baritone Edmund Connolly.

The Creation was written by Joseph Haydn to celebrate the creation of our world as described in the biblical books of Genesis and Psalms and in John Milton’s Paradise Lost.

“This May 7 concert will be a wonderful finale for our sixth season. Our Chorus and the NMPhil, along with three amazing soloists, will provide a powerful concert,” said Chorus Music Director Roger Melone. “We’re especially excited to present this truly masterful work in Albuquerque’s First United Methodist Church with its great acoustics.”
