UNMLA News:
A significant part of the UNM-LA Campus mission is its ongoing mission of Community Outreach and Service. The campus made a major commitment to that goal in 2016 through its ongoing support of the Sunday Musicale series of concerts presented by the Los Alamos Music Teachers Association (LAMTA).
At 2 p.m., Sunday, April 23, the UNM-LA Campus will host the final spring piano recital, featuring 13 young pianists between the ages of 8 and 16. The recital is FREE and open to the public, being held in the campus Student Services Building. The concert is easily wheelchair accessible by parking in the parking lot behind the Student Services, or, by stairs at the entrance off Diamond Drive.
Students will be presenting a program that is a mixture of musical styles spanning all musical periods from Baroque, Classic, Romantic, and the Modern era. Several of Sunday’s performers have been prize winners in piano competitions held this past year throughout New Mexico. The LAMTA’s Sunday Musicales are regular public presentations in both fall and spring terms for the public’s enjoyment and to highlight appreciation of the city’s musically talented youth, as well as providing an important performance opportunity for young pianists.
Performing in the Musicale are three siblings from one family: Lena Ronning, age 9, is performing “The Tempest” by Nancy Faber; Kamaya Ronning, age 12, follows with Tchaikovsky’s “Song of the Lark,” Op. 39, No. 22; and finally, Isaac Ronning, age 14, will perform J.S. Bach’s “Invention No. 8” in F Major.
The remainder of the recital will feature pianists:
