COMMUNITY News:

Local resident and American Legion Auxiliary icon Marie Todd who has been in charge of the program since being passed the torch in 1969 from Louise Mendez is hopeful that local young ladies will take the opportunity to experience what New Mexico has to offer.

Young women headed into their senior year in high school can apply for New Mexico Girl’s State being held June 4-9 this year. The one week experience boasts tremendous leadership training, three college credits and the experience of a lifetime surrounded in Americanism.

The non-partisan opportunity will take place at Eastern New Mexico University (ENMU) on the lovely Portales campus. The delegates will be housed in the Eddy Hall dorms, while meetings will take place in the Campus Union Building (CUB).

One Samsung American Legion Scholarship will be presented with the chance to win a $10,000 scholarship and attend Girl’s Nation.

Additional information and an application is available on line at https:////www.alanmgirlsstate.org. Marie Todd is available to answer questions and offer guidance in what make for a successful week by calling 505.672.3846.
