POLITICAL News:ALBUQUERQUE ― Attorney General Hector Balderas announced Tuesday his endorsement of U.S. Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham for governor of New Mexico.
The endorsement is the first made by a sitting statewide elected official in New Mexico’s 2018 gubernatorial race.
“As Attorney General, I am committed to building on the progress we’ve made to make New Mexico safer for children and families, protect seniors from fraud and abuse, and ensure big corporations do not take advantage of consumers,” Balderas said. “I am also standing up to challenge President Trump as he tries to roll back environmental safeguards and threatens our Constitutional rights. I am counting on our next Governor to be a partner in these efforts. And I know Michelle Lujan Grisham will confront these challenges head on as New Mexico’s next governor.
“The next Governor’s race is critical to New Mexico’s future. I am endorsing Michelle because she has a track record of fighting for New Mexicans, especially the most vulnerable children, seniors and veterans who rely on her fierce advocacy. Michelle has proven herself as a leader who gets results, at home in New Mexico and in her current role as chairwoman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. I look forward to working with Michelle when she is elected Governor so together, we can make a real difference in the lives of the people of New Mexico.”
Lujan Grisham, a Democrat from New Mexico’s 1st Congressional District said, “I am grateful to have the support and confidence of Attorney General Hector Balderas. I look forward to working alongside him to ensure that our small businesses, consumers, and hardworking families across New Mexico are treated fairly. I am proud to have Hector as an ally as we continue the fight to make sure our government reflects New Mexico’s basic value of respect for all people.”
Attorney General Balderas’ endorsement adds to the growing list of support Lujan Grisham has earned from organized labor, community leaders, and political advocacy organizations.
