SPORTS News:

The Los Alamos Little League District 1 Champion All-stars for the 9-11 Age Division wrapped up their season over the weekend in Carlsbad with a loss to Noon Optimist (Roswell), a win over the Dine’ Nation and a loss to LaPlaza LL (Las Vegas).

Highlights for the weekend were a big win over Dine’ (24-4) after a slow start and a hard-fought battle with LaPlaza in which Los Alamos battled back from a deficit of 6-0 and tied the game at 6 in the 4th inning before losing 13-7.

“Since their district win over Espanola in late June, these kids had a great opportunity to get several additional weeks of summer baseball in which they developed their skills and came together as a team as this past weekend proved,” Coach Dave Swavely said. “Anytime that you can get a win and play competitive games in state play, it is a positive for the LALL program.”

In addition to playing the games at a top rate facility (Bob Forrest Complex), the athletes enjoyed activities such as the Caverns and the newly built water park along the Pecos River.
