U.S. Sen. Tom Udall

U.S. SENATE News:

This week, U.S. Sen. Tom Udall will be the keynote speaker at a forum on national security and economic prosperity with the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC) and at the New Mexico Water Resources Research Institute’s (WRRI) 62nd Annual N.M. Water Conference.

He also will lead a roundtable discussion at Kirtland Air Force Base with leaders of the N.M. National Guard to highlight the legislation he has introduced to help mothers in the National Guard and Reserves and discuss other ways he can work with New Mexico’s Guard to continue to strengthen readiness and recruitment.

Monday in Albuquerque, Udall will participate in a lunch forum on national security and economic prosperity hosted by the USGLC, a network of business, foreign policy experts, and community leaders who advocate for diplomacy and global development. Udall will join U.S. Air Force Gen. Victor “Gene” Renuart, former commander of U.S. Northern Command and North American Aerospace Defense Command; Carrie Hessler-Radelet, executive director of Project Concern International; and other key political and business leaders for a discussion on how American leadership abroad bolsters our national security and creates jobs in New Mexico. Over 218,000 local jobs are tied to international trade and exports to foreign markets total more than $3.6 billion a year.

Later Monday afternoon, Udall will visit Kirtland Air Force Base to meet with leaders in the National Guard to discuss his work to strengthen New Mexico’s Guard by fighting for federal funding as a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee and by supporting policies to help New Mexico retain its Guard and Reserve members. Udall recently introduced the Mothers of Military Service (MOMS) Leave Act, to ensure that women serving in the National Guard and Reserves can continue to earn credit toward military retirement while on maternity leave.

Tuesday, Udall will keynote New Mexico WRRI’s 62nd Annual N.M. Udall will also moderate a panel discussion, “Addressing hidden realties of new water opportunities,” which will feature several water experts, including Myron Armijo, governor of Santa Ana Pueblo; and Terry Brunner, chief program officer with Grow New Mexico; and he will participate in a discussion with his cousin Brad Udall, senior water and climate research scientist/scholar at Colorado State University’s Colorado Water Institute, about the “Udall Water Legacy” and the influences that have shaped their views on water and Western water policy.
