With school starting this Thursday, Aug. 17, the Los Alamos Police Department will be stepping up its presence in designated school zones throughout the communty.

While all drivers have a responsibility of adjusting their driving habits during school hours, parents of school children have a responsibility as well in keeping kids safe. Please pay attention to your speed and watch for children at cross walks.

Also be mindful of school busses loading and unloading children. Give yourself extra time if you are taking children to school and buckle everyone up.

Traffic is always congested at the beginning of a new school year so plan accordingly. Be patient with other drivers. It comes down to the safety of our children.
