Figuerido will be playing guitar and accompanied on jazz drums by Michael Warren. Diego is a Brazilian guitar virtuoso. Diego is considered to be amongst the top of the world’s greatest jazz guitarists. The duo will play sambas, jazz, bossa nova, classical music and a Brazilian jazz fusion of all.
Guitarist George Benson says “Diego is one of the greatest guitarists I’ve seen in my whole life. The world needs to listen to his music.” Diego has won the “Montreux Jazz Festival” top prize twice for being a master jazz guitarist. Prima jazz vocalist Flora Purim says “I have seen and played with many wonderful guitarists like Joe Pass and Baden Powell, but no one is like Diego. His ability and swing are unique.” Figuerido plays a fingerstyle with a lot of imagination and creativity. When he played at the Pond last summer, he mesmerized our audience. Diego has been acclaimed by hundreds of international newspapers and critics as one of the best guitarists in the world. Folks, he is that good!
I spoke to Diego last night and he told me he’ll play some of the music of Antonio Carlos Jobim, Charlie Byrd & Stan Getz plus Agustin Barrios, Johan Sebastian Bach, Frederic Chopin and Heitor Villa Lobos. He’ll also play some of his versions of standards like “Round Midnight”, “Cherokee”, “Tico Tico”, “Brazil”, “Wave”, “Night In Tunisia”, “Girl From Ipanema”, “Take Five”, “Autumn Leaves” and “Stella By Starlight.” He’s played this music at some of the World’s greatest clubs, concert halls and festivals. He’s played Birdland, Lincoln Center, the Wolftrap Barns, Blues Alley, Dizzy’s, Joe’s Pub in NYC and Jazz Alley in Seattle plus hundreds of other world famous venues. He’s also played the Hong Kong, Copenhagen, Montreux and Aspen Jazz Festivals and many others.
I hope you can come. I mean all of you because we’re gonna turn you on to some fantastic, memorable, beautiful and spellbinding music.
Next Friday, Aug. 25, we’ll be back at Ashley Pond with the rock, rockabilly, honkytonk and roots-rock music of Big Sandy & His Fly-Rite Boys. They’re also on www.youtube.com and www.bigsandy.net.
