UNM-LA News:

UNM-Los Alamos welcomed Secret City Kitchen to the campus last November, and it quickly became a favorite place for community members in addition to UNM-LA students, faculty and staff.

The Secret City Kitchen is once again serving up a menu of burritos, sandwiches, salads, and pastries, scones and coffee in the Student Center (building 2) at UNM-LA, 4000 University Dr.

Secret City Kitchen owner and chef Jeremy Varela has introduced a few new items to his menu this fall, including an Indian burrito, with the spices of India flavoring the eggs, tomato, onion and cilantro. Since they are now cooking in the café’s kitchen, customers can order burritos to taste, selecting their favorite ingredients. Although it’s not on the printed menu, Varela says they will be happy to prepare omelets as well.

Chef Sanaa Ahmed has been preparing the food served at the Secret City Kitchen café, but in the past, she worked out of the company kitchen and the food was transported to the UNM-LA campus. Now she will be working in the café kitchen and will interface with customers. Ahmed is the inspiration behind the dishes that have Indian spices, and is constantly working to develop new recipes.

The turkey jack sandwich remains the most popular offering. According to Varela, one customer said, “I really want to try something else but the turkey jack is just so good I have to get it.”

Secret City Kitchen at UNM-LA operates 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Monday through Thursday. They are in the process of setting up online ordering so soon customers will be able to order ahead and indicate pickup time. Varela invites members of the community to visit the campus café for a relaxing meal made to order and enjoy the academic venue.
