POLITICAL News:
Tuesday, Sept. 5, hundreds of students, immigrant leaders and allies across the state of New Mexico will participate in a ‘Statewide Student Walkout for Immigrant Justice’ calling for the protection of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and immigrant families nationwide.
The statewide demonstration comes on the same date, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and 9 other Republican Attorneys General, set as a deadline for the administrative relief program to be phased-out by the Trump administration –or face a lawsuit to try and rule the program as unconstitutional.
If the program is terminated, over 800 thousand young immigrants would face immediate risk of deportation and an abrupt ending to their new found sense of security. In NM, nearly 7 thousand people live under the temporary protection from deportation.

In Albuquerque, following the statewide walkout, a rally is scheduled to happen beginning at 4 p.m. at Civic Plaza.
