LAPS Assistant Superintendents Lisa Montoya and Kelly Taylor have been on the job for less than three months and there is already improved support for students and staff. These new positions are part of a leaner school district office that is designed to streamline operations and improve communications.
In just a few months, there are higher ratings from staff about the back-to-school professional development sessions, a greatly improved and more prudent budgeting process with schools, decisions that better include the “teacher voice,” enhanced customer service from facilities and maintenance staff, and stronger partnerships among the Los Alamos community.
Montoya is assistant superintendent for Finance and Operations, brings with her 17 years of business experience and three years in the LAPS District Office, serving as Chief Financial Officer. As CFO, Montoya has proven to be a very capable leader. Her new role is much broader than CFO and covers management of the Business Office, Human Resources, Food Services, Facilities, Construction and Capital Projects, Fixed Assets and Leases, and Transportation. She earned her degree in Business Administration from New Mexico State University.
Taylor is assistant superintendent for Learning and Accountability. She is transitioning from serving as a school leader in Colorado and a teacher at Aspen Elementary School. Taylor brings with her a unique view of her new position, as well as a dedication to building strong collaborative relationships and a shared vision for the District. Her new role includes Student Services, Learning Technologies, Student Achievement, Curriculum and Instructions, and the Healthy Schools Initiative.
Before teaching second grade at Aspen, Ms. Taylor worked as a principal and Dean of Academics in Colorado Springs. She also has taught fourth and eighth grades in Colorado Springs as well as second and fourth grades in Amarillo, Texas. She earned her Bachelors of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from West Texas A&M University, where she graduated Manga Cum Laude. Her Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, Foundations, and Research is from the University of Colorado.
