Priority Bill To Expand Roswell Air Center Passes House

LEGISLATIVE News:

SANTA FE Thursday, a bill sponsored by Rep. Candy Spence Ezzell (R-Roswell) and supported by the Speaker of the House Brian Egolf (D-Santa Fe) to expand the Roswell International Air Center passed the House Floor with broad support.

HB 197 would support the air center, bringing economic growth and development to the area.

“I took a tour of this facility during our statewide jobs tour and it is far more than an airport. I was astounded by the potential, the resources, and the vision of this community. It is an example of a region unified around an economic development strategy that could bring thousands of jobs to an area that really needs them,” Egolf said. “This bill will allow for tremendous expansion for the economy, the region, and the state.”

HB 197, introduced by Rep. Candy Spence Ezzell (R-Roswell), would capitalize on the economic potential of infrastructure associated with a former United States Air Force base. The project would benefit surrounding communities and the state, and would stimulate aviation-related economic activity and investment in the areas of avionics, military operations, international trade, transportation, and emerging high technology research.

The bill now heads to the Senate for consideration.
