Giant Arachnids Take Over Atomic Science Museum … School Children Line Up For Chance To Handle Them

EDUCATION News:

It sounds like the setting for the next Spiderman movie, but Chamisa Elementary School’s annual Science Night is even more fun than a radioactive spider bite!

The Bradbury Science Museum in Los Alamos will open its doors for Chamisa students and their families 6-7:30 p.m. today and admission is FREE.

A sample of this year’s highlights include:

  • Wade Harrel from the Harrell House of Oddities in Santa Fe, who will bring his travelling collection of insects, spiders and all things creepy-crawly.
  • Volunteers from The Wildlife Center of Espanola with their rescued birds of prey.
  • Los Alamos County will tell you where your waste ends up, it might be as close as your back yard!
  • The Los Alamos Geological Society may just let you hold a fossil as old as the dinosaurs.

….and more….

Science Night has been educating children and their parents for four years. Sponsored by the Chamisa PTO this event originated as a way to get kids excited about science by engaging them with fun, hands-on activities outside the classroom setting. Activities and participants are different every year, so there is always something new to see and learn.

Chamisa PTO is a 501(c)(3) organization working in partnership with Chamisa Elementary School to offer support to teachers and staff, and provide for extracurricular community based programs and events to enrich the lives of the students and their families.
