Summit Garden Club News:
New Mexico Garden Clubs – District 2 – Summit Garden Club are preparing for their annual Spring Convention April 4-6 at Buffalo Thunder Resort
The event program is “Revitalizing Traditional Agriculture for Spiritual and Human Need through the Preservation of Traditional and Heirloom Seeds” by Clayton Brascoupe.
Clayton Brascoupe is director of the Traditional Native American Farmers Association. TNAFA is active in the preservation and conservation of traditional and heirloom seeds. Through a variety of educational programs they support native communities, farmers and young people in community scale organic farming, with the end goal of ensuring a future in agriculture.
The convention continues in the evening with the Annual Banquet recognizing past state presidents and club presidents. The top NMGC awards will be presented.
The program is ‘SEEDS FOR THOUGHT’ by Roxanne Swentzell.
Roxanne Swentzell, a world renowned artist whose works appear at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian, the Denver Art Museum and the Santa Fe Convention Center and also a prominent permaculturist. Swentzell is one of the founders of the Flowering Tree Permaculture Institute. Topics may include creating a sustainable homestead, land restoration, plant diversity, seed saving, water catchment, etc.
The convention closes Friday morning with the NMGC,Inc awards presentation.
