Letter To The Editor: Dist. 43 Candidate Christine Chandler Works Well With Others

By RICK REISS
Los Alamos County Councilor

As we reach the end of another campaign season, it has become uncommon for a candidate to demonstrate a simple characteristic that is lacking in politics in all levels of government. That characteristic is the ability to work well with others. Christine Chandler has stuck to the issues and never spoke divisively about other candidates.

Working well with others is a skill we need in government. With many opinions, it is important to have a representative that listens, explores alternatives to other opinions and does not denigrate them. I have come to know Ms. Chandler better over the last few years on Council and found I could hold a civil discussion with her, share my opinion and position and sometimes convince her that we could share an alternative decision. That is what cooperation, civil discourse and representation is all about.

Other candidates have demonstrated tactics that are just plain ugly. We can’t make progress if we can’t hold a civil discussion without attacking the others in the room. When it comes to making decisions for the benefit of the citizens of the state, representation requires working with everyone, and the citizens they represent.

Ms. Chandler has taken a higher road in this campaign. Combined with her experience in the Roundhouse and her legal background, Los Alamos and District 43 will be best served by Christine Chandler.
