Registration is open for the four spring sessions of the Los Alamos History Museum’s Time Travelers, a free after-school, drop-off program on Wednesdays. Students set out on an adventure of exploration, investigating local history through artifacts in the History Museum and hands-on activities. The program is for students in grades 2, 3, and 4 and meets 1:15–3:00 p.m. in Fuller Lodge.

The spring sessions are on the first Wednesdays of February, March, April and May. All sessions are pay-what-you-like, and pre-registration is required. Sessions are limited to 10 students, with a minimum size of five students. Registration information is available at www.losalamoshistory.org/childrens_programs.

The program for Feb. 6 is Pueblo Pottery. In this session, students will learn about Pueblo pottery and its traditions, focusing on the History Museum’s upcoming temporary exhibit, Atoms and Art, which features a collection of pottery by Maria Poveka Martinez.

The March 6 program, Pierotti’s Clowns, focuses on the uniquely entertaining Los Alamos softball team that played here during the Cold War era raised more than $200,00 for charity, the equivealent of $2 million today!). Students will visit the Hans Bethe House to learn about the team and see some of the props the Clowns used for their tricks on the field. April 3, students will explore Ancestral Pueblo Life. In this session, they will visit the small Ancestral Pueblo site on the History Museum campus and learn about the daily lives of the Ancestral Pueblo people who once lived there.

The program for May 1 is titled Archives Adventures and centers on a field trip to the Los Alamos Historical Society Archives. Students will take a behind-the-scenes tour with the archivist and curator and learn about how museums take care of historical objects so that people can learn from them now and in the future.
