MUSIC News:
Join LACS/LASO at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17 at Duane Smith Auditorium for a classical music concert lasting about an hour.
The concert will include two short pieces, “Ave Verum Corpus,” a lovely lament sung in Latin created by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in 1791, and “The Promise of Living,” from the opera The Tender Land, music by Aaron Copland, libretto by Horace Everett, which tells a story of farm life in the Midwest.
The third piece will be Ludwig Van Beethoven’s Mass in C Major, composed in the early 1800s. One does not need to know Latin to understand the elegant grace conveyed by the music.
Sunday’s concert will feature conductor Dr. Steven Paxton, pianist Cindy Little and concertmaster Kay Newnam, in addition to reflecting months of hard work by nearly 70 members of the Los Alamos Symphony Orchestra and the Los Alamos Choral Society.
The concert is dedicated to the memory of Loren Jacobson, talented baritone and top-notch scientist at LANL, who had been a member of the Los Alamos Choral Society, Santa Fe Pro Coro, Santa Fe Symphony Chorus, Sangre de Cristo Chorale, Coro de Camara and the Santa Fe Desert Chorale.
Tickets are $15 for adults, while students are free. Tickets can be purchased at CB FOX or at the door. You are sure to recognize many of your friends and neighbors on the stage.
