The UNM-Los Alamos (UNM-LA) Advisory Board met March 11 and made a unanimous decision to recommend maintaining tuition at the current rate.
Director of Business Operations Bob Harmon and CEO Cindy Rooney presented an overview of current and projected student enrollment, current tuition and fees, and a comparison to other colleges and universities in the state.
“Based on our current enrollment, our financial position, and anticipated positions of other UNM Branches related to tuition increases, UNM-Los Alamos proposes no tuition increase for FY20,” Harmon said.
The total cost per semester at UNM-LA is competitive with other branch campus and community colleges in the area, and less expensive than the four-year institution.
Tuition at UNM-LA is $82 per credit hour. With tuition and fees, the cost per semester for a full-time student (up to 18 credit hours) is $1,048.
“At UNM-LA, our objective is to provide a high quality education at a reasonable cost,” Rooney said. “We are pleased that we can continue to provide excellent instruction and student support without any increases in tuition or fees for the coming year.”
Harmon and Rooney will formally present this recommendation to the UNM Board of Regents at the Budget Summit scheduled for April 5.
UNM-Los Alamos is an innovative, rigorous, and affordable comprehensive branch community college that provides foundations for transfer, leading-edge career programs, and lifelong learning opportunities.
