The Antiques Dealers’ Association of America, Inc. will present the 2019 ADA Award of Merit to journalist and author Laura Beach, whose scholarship, journalistic acumen, and broad understanding of the complicated world of art, antiques, and design have benefited dealers, curators, collectors from all over the United States and beyond.

This award recognizes those who have made outstanding contributions to the fields of American fine and decorative arts and the business of buying and selling antiques. Beach is among an elite group of awardees who have been honored in the organization’s 35-year history.

Beach is a 1974 graduate of Los Alamos High School who holds a M.B.A. from Columbia University, B.A. History of Art from Yale College and a Certificate in ASA Appraisal Studies. She resides in Connecticut and is the daughter of Janet Clayton of Los Alamos.

The former deputy editor of The Magazine Antiques, Beach previously served as publicist, exhibition coordinator and curatorial intern at the Hudson River Museum, American Folk Art Museum and Museum of International Folk Art, a division of the Museum of New Mexico, respectively. The New York Times, Architectural Digest, Connoisseurs Quarterly, The Magazine Antiques, Antiques and Fine Art, Art + Auction, Country Home, Country Gardens, Millionaire and Sky are among the many publications to which she has contributed. In August 2018 she stepped down as editor of Antiques and The Arts Weekly and is currently the publication’s editor at large.

Beach is the author of the book The Art of Stephen Huneck (Abrams), the catalogue ‘Til Death Do Us Part: Eighteenth Century New England Gravestones: Design Sources of Eighteenth Century New England Gravestones (Yale University Art Gallery) and several extended essays on the history of the antiques trade, a personal interest.
