Kyrina Deschamp has been working hard this summer on her BMX bike
This past summer Deschamp spent most her time racing her BMx bike at Duke City BMX as well as other tracks throughout New Mexico and the southwest.
In March she competed in the USABMX spring nationals in Albuquerque and took home the first place title in her first nationals event.
She began the summer race season competing at Duke City BMX, she traveled to Las Vegas, Nev., to compete in the USABMX Las Vegas Nationals in July. The competition was a lot stronger then her last nationals in the spring, she placed first in two qualifying races during the three days to put her into the main event. But unfortunately didn’t finish in the top three over all.
Deschamp also competed in the BMX portion of the New Mexico games in July and competed in the 15 intermediate class as a 14-year-old and finished second place at Duke City BMX. She went on to win the USABMX gold cup qualifier in El Paso, Texas Desert Downs against all boys in her class and also took home the Texas Crash and burn trophy for best crash of the weekend on day two.
Deschamp then went on to finish second place in Las Cruces Wild Chili BMX, next she swept the competition in Deming 575BMX placing first in all three races this past weekend.
She will be heading back to the southern part of New Mexico to compete in Deming 575BMX and Las Cruces Wild Chili BMX for the New Mexico State qualifiers at the end of this month so she can compete in the New Mexico State championship in September.
Deschamp has been working hard and has her focus on the New Mexico State qualifiers at this time but said she plans on traveling to Houston, Texas in October for the Lone Star nationals in hopes of taking home one more nationals title before the USABMX grand national in Tulsa, Okla., over Thanksgiving weekend. “Grands” is the super bowl of BMX.
Deschamp said win or lose at “Grands” she’ll still be happy. She’s learned a lot this past year and is looking forward to her future in the sport of BMX.
Deschamp and her dad started rebuilding the Los Alamos BMX track this past spring with friends and volunteers so they would have a place for kids to ride BMX and get more kids involved and racing in the sport. They are working with the Los Alamos County and new track development from USABMX in order to rebuild the Los Alamos BMX track and start running sanctioned races.
