EDUCATION News:
The Public Education Commission meeting to vote on the application of Polaris Charter School to be chartered by the State of New Mexico is scheduled for 9 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 22 in Mabry Hall, 300 Don Gaspar in Santa Fe.
Polaris is applying for a state charter in Los Alamos to serve grades 6-8 and represented by founders, Elizabeth Martineau, Bill Hargraves, Scott B. Johnson, Branden Wilman-Kozimor and Amy Bartlett-Gaunt.
A report prepared by New Mexico Public Education Department staff recommends denial of the application, however, this is only a recommendation and the Public Education Commission will make the decision on the approval, approval with conditions, or denial at the Aug. 22.
Those who wish to comment on the Polaris application will have an opportunity during the public comment portion of the hearing.
