COUNTY News:
Interested individuals who would like to weigh-in on the potential of opening a small vending business within a larger, centrally located space are asked to take the Los Alamos Little Shops survey by Sept. 7.
The survey can be taken at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/LosAlamosLittleShop. The survey closes after Sept. 7.
Los Alamos County’s Discovery Action Team (DAT) is researching the potential of local home-based businesses or startups’ interested in renting a table, booth, stall or small shop.
DAT is a volunteer group that forwards ideas to make Los Alamos and White Rock better places to live and visit.
A total of 96 people with ideas of vending have taken the survey so far, and 69 percent have indicated an interest to keep informed on the matter, said Jim Glover of Once a Day Marketing who is a facilitator for DAT. Glover said the survey is mostly for business owners and includes potential rental costs. Similar concepts are running in several communities, including The Village in Washington, Iowa.
“We hope to have a formal meeting with potential vendors to see where the community can take this idea,” Glover said. “It might be beneficial to experiment with a ‘pop-up’
event so that Little Shop vendors can test this centralized concept on a certain day and at a centralized place… .”
Glover said that once the survey is completed, results will be shared at the Discoveries Action Team meeting and with various organizations, the survey respondents and other parties to explore next steps.
