ALBUQUERQUE ― The Albuquerque Film & Music Experience (AFMX) is the premier film and musical festival in the region. In its seventh year, AFMX will run Sept. 24-29.
In addition to an amazing lineup of films, live performances, and events, AFMX also offers several showings and special lectures that are free to the public.
“From movie screenings to symposiums, offering free events allows AFMX to expand the opportunity to attract those interested in film, music and the arts that may be on a limited budget,” AFMX Executive Director Ivan Wiener said. “The year’s free events include classic movies, after parties, and even a casting call. Because space is limited, we do ask for those interested in the movies and lectures to please register to ensure we have room for everyone. The after parties do not require registration.”
The AFMX free events include:
- (Lecture) Intimate Conversation with Tom Proctor, Thursday, Sept. 26, 2019, 12:30 p.m., Hotel Albuquerque at Old Town;
- (Screening) I Can Only Be Mary Lane, Thursday, Sept. 26, 2019 3 p.m., Dyna Theater Inside the NM Museum of Natural History & Sciences;
- (Screening) Redeeming Uncle Tom/Alivestock/Refuge(e), Friday, Sept. 27, 2019 1 p.m., Dyna Theater Inside the NM Museum of Natural History & Sciences;
- (Screening) Fading Portraits/small Town ROBOT, Friday, Sept. 27, 2019 3:15 p.m., Dyna Theater Inside the NM Museum of Natural History & Sciences;
- (Lecture) Moses on the Mesa – Filming Across Cultures in New Mexico, Friday, Sept. 27, 2019, 10 a.m., Jewish Community Center; and
- AFMX Casting Call with Elizabeth Gabel & Lorrie Latham, Sunday, Sept. 29, 2019 11 a.m., Hotel Albuquerque at Old Town.

- Get Your Motor Runnin’ at Tractory Brewery Wells Park with live music by Dirty Modine, 10 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 26 at Tractor Brewery Wells Park;
- Three Chord Bourbon & Blues at Q Bar featuring live music by Zay Santos, 6 p.m., Friday, Sept. 27 at Hotel Albuquerque at Old Town; and
- Salsa Night at AFMX, 10 p.m., Friday, Sept. 20 at Q Bar.
