Daily Postcard: Sharp-Shinned Hawk Spotted On Andanada

Despite its very effective camouflage, a Sharp-shinned Hawk is spotted Friday morning perched in a tree on Andanada Street. It stayed there for a long while and only took off when a bird flew by. The Sharp-shinned Hawk is the smallest hawk in the United States and Canada and a daring, acrobatic flier. These raptors have distinctive proportions: long legs, short wings and very long tails, which they use for navigating their deep-woods homes at top speed in pursuit of songbirds and mice.
