Berlin, Germany, March 2020, Eyewear specialists Lensbest have released a study that for the first time uses a data-driven approach to collate and determine the best spots around the world to watch a sunset.
The dataset includes:
- The top 100 places to see the sunset around the world;
- 400 honorable mentions of other locations recommended by travel journalists;
- A customizable table where you can see recommended vantage points by country and region; and
- Details on the best time of year to view the sunset from each destination.
As the best sunset-viewing experience is often a subjective one, the company decided to ask those who had the most knowledge gained by visiting numerous spectacular locations around the world: travel journalists. The result is a comprehensive list of the top 100 places across the globe to view a sunset according to international consensus, as well as a further list of 400 honorable mentions.
How the study was conducted:
To begin the study, Lensbest sent a questionnaire to travel journalists hailing from 46 countries across the globe. The respondents were asked to give their opinion on the best spot to view a sunset in both their home country, as well as in those they’d visited around the world.
They also were asked “Which season of the year do you think it’s best to watch a sunset in this spot?” With more than 600 global locations nominated, the answers were then compiled and refined using a score-based system into a final shortlist of the 100 best places to watch a sunset worldwide according to travel journalists.
