Calvary Chapel  News:

Calvary Chapel Pastor Pat Kestell read the front of his tee shirt, “Don’t Go To Church” and added, “Go to the soccer field!”

The back of the tee shirt reads, “Be The Church” … which he said they can do safely and still comply with the governor’s orders for gatherings.

On Sunday Calvary Chapel assembled in cars for a Drive-in church. Using an FM radio transmitter and adhering strictly to the governor’s edict to remain in the cars, the church gathered in person – more or less.

“Our safety and the safety of the community are of utmost importance,” Pastor Kestell said. “Because we have verified the governor’s order with multiple sources including the state police, we have chosen to meet in a way that we can at least see each other.”

The Drive-in church is specifically mentioned in the governor’s most recent clarification as a good and acceptable option for meeting in person.

Calvary Chapel, whose physical building is on North Mesa, gathered in the parking lot at the soccer fields just around the corner from their building. The public parking lot better suits the set up than their own and, having received confirmation of the legality of using it from LAPD, the site was chosen.

The response from the congregation was overwhelmingly positive so the same site will be used again this Sunday.  The community is welcome to join them at 10:30-11:45 a.m. at the soccer fields.

“If you don’t have a church, or if your church isn’t meeting in person and you would like to join us until they do, please come on Sunday.” Pastor Kestell said.
