Los Alamos County Council
Due to COVID-19 Several things have become painfully clear about the Republican Party.
First: The Republican Party is NOT Pro-Life! You cannot say your pro-life if you Only care about life in the womb and not about lives out of the womb.
Second: The Party will not believe what scientist, doctors, or other specialists say about anything.
Third: The Party Will come up with their own set of “facts” whether they’re applicable to the situation or not.
Fourth: Whatever Trump is saying at this moment is the absolute truth and all else is fake news, even when Trump contradicts himself in the same campaign rally, excuse me “news” conference.
Ninety percent of the Republican Party identifies as Christian. This is disturbing that they apparently don’t know their New Testament instructs them to obey authorities and to defy them brings condemnation from God. Reference: Romans 13:1-2, Titus 3:1, 1 Peter 2:13-14, and Hebrews 13:17.
Mr. Reagor quotes a lot of facts from New York City. It should go without saying nothing in the State of New Mexico comes close to resembling NYC, so you can’t make a comparison. He then states things in a misleading way.
As there has been testing for the virus, only among those with serious respiratory problems and people in contact with them, and there is no approved and then proven reliable antibody test, you cannot say over 1 million NYC residents have the virus when the official count as of Tuesday night was 138,435. And even if they do, you cannot say how many will never develop symptoms or die. Especially when the Seattle Flu Project determined it can take up to 6 weeks for infected people to show symptoms (which nullifies the old fashioned idea that 14 days is the incubation period).
New information almost on a daily bases identifies new symptoms, which can and almost certainly have been deadly such as: weeks of diarrhea (similar to Cholera), heart damage, liver damage and kidney damage to people who were healthy before the infection.
Covid-19 deaths have surpassed influenza deaths in 7 of the last 9 yrs and are on track to pass the other 2 years (https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden/past-seasons.html). Flu season is 8 months, Oct through May (https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/season/flu-season.htm). We are only 2 months into this virus. In another 6 months we’ll have a better idea if healthy people have a lower death rate with CoVid-19 than Influenza, or if it’s just taking Healthy people longer to get seriously ill.
There’s zero evidence that there will be rapid advances in treatment, and facts so far say the opposite. Evidence is growing that some percentage of people who had been sick with the virus, recovered and were free of the virus for over a month, and are becoming sick again. This suggests at worse a vaccine may never be developed , or will need to be administered multiple times, maybe monthly.
Mr. Reagor suggests the answer has been and is to voluntarily self isolate the vulnerable. Everyone else can go about business as usual with social distancing. And that somehow this will end the need to isolate for high risks group people because the low risk people will build immunity.
I guess he’s using Trump reasoning to say ending the shut down of most businesses will increase the spread of the virus among healthy people and none of them will get sick or die and this immunity will magically impart to the isolated high risk people.
Also U.S. Health and Human Services (https://www.hhs.gov/fitness/resource-center/facts-and-statistics/index.html ) reports that even when figuring in active adults and children 80 percent of the population doesn’t meet the requirements to be considered healthy. Even if you ignore that, a simple look around Smith’s tells you at least half the population of Los Alamos, both adults and children are in the high risk group for complications if they catch the virus.
Please don’t give validation to the Republican Party by participating in their protest or protesting against it.
